I finally did something tonight that had been on my bucket list for almost a decade. After adopting Golden State as my team when I moved to the Bay Area in 2009 I got to watch them grow into a basketball dynasty. I got to attend a game in person three years ago and that was super fun. I have always wanted to complete the double header of attending a watch party while they were away in the Finals. Since this is the last year of the Warriors playing at Oracle I decided spur of the moment to take in Game 1 while they were at Toronto.
The game started at 6pm and the doors opened to the arena at 5pm. I made double sure to get there super early so as not to fight the commuting herd during rush hour. The tickets were only $25 and thanks to the giant jumbotron there isn’t a bad seat in the house. They handed out free stuff just like they would at any home game and there was plenty of retail and food and drink shops open for business. I paid $14 for a double shot of tequila in my margarita and another $12 for some Barefoot wine. I’m not going to complain because I expected that.
At halftime we were treated to live entertainment on the floor of the arena (they didn’t set up the actual hardwood of the court) and the sound and clarity of the telecast was excellent. It was like watching the game in the biggest sports bar you have ever been in. The energy and cheering and roaring of the cloud was deafening and the arena was only 2/3 full. You can easily imagine what it sounds like for real when the joint is full. I had a great time at my first Warriors watch party and if you haven’t ever been to one you might want to check it out. It’s a blast for sure!
