In this day and age, every business venture, every organization, and every independent professional needs to have a solid and contemporary online presence. Personally, I think every website also needs some sort of ecommerce and purchasing portal as well, but that will be another blog. For now, let’s just talk about some basics.
First of all, you need a good domain name that will help you put a “face” on your brand and business. Domain names should be 15 characters and I strongly suggest that you don’t use hyphens. Then you need to decide if you want a standard site which will be updated occasionally or if you need a site that will be updated frequently by multiple people. I’m a big fan of WordPress and I’m a big fan of recruiting people inside your camp to help keep the site current and fresh. To start, every website from day one, should have 5 pages: Home, About, Contact, Links, and Photos. You will most likely add many more pages as time goes forward but this is a great place to start when you first launching your web portal.
I learned how to develop websites in graduate school and it was so much fun. I actually designed them for extra money while getting by as a graduate teaching assistant. I’ve been developing and managing web portals ever since. If you or your business need a website built from the ground up, or if you want to revamp your existing one, I can help. I will give you a basic 5-page website, hosted and managed for 5 months, up and running in 5 days for $500. Ecommerce and business email services are also available upon request and a small upcharge. I also provide a free, one-hour initial consultation. If you want to talk more you can reach me directly by filling out this form.
